Arsenal Transfer News-Sesko signs, Zubimendi deal, Tierney exit, Kimmich agreement – Dream Arsenal end to transfer window
Arsenal will be looking to end the January transfer window with a few signings to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s playing squad
Arsenal have yet to do any incoming business in the January transfer window, although that is not a surprise. Manager Mikel Arteta warned supporters against getting too excited by suggesting it would be quiet before the market opened.
“Some surprises can happen,” he said, but a yet we have not been surprised by any signings. Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury may force the Gunners into business though.
Arteta recently said after the injury to Gabriel Jesus was confirmed: “For sure we are going to try in the market and we want to reinforce attack. We’ve lost two big players, Bukayo [Saka] for up for three months and Gabriel Jesus will be out for a long time.
“We know who we want to sign.”
Plenty of the same names who were linked with Arsenal in the summer transfer window – Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen – are being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium again.
But what does the perfect end to the January transfer window look like for Arsenal? football.london takes a look…
Sesko signs
The Slovenian frontman was one of the name s on everyone’s lips in the summer until he put pen to paper on a new deal to remain with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
The frontman is once again being linked with Arsenal, although his agent Elvis Basanovic has poured cold water on a deal. “I don’t know from where does this story comes, I never talked with Arsenal about loan,” he said.
“Sesko is not a player for loans, never a topic for Arsenal or any other club.” Basanovic did not rule out a move in January though.
He coyly added: “Even if we’re aware of interest from several top clubs for a long time, if you ask me if Sesko will move in January, I can only say Sesko is an RB Leipzig player and they can answer these questions.”
Arteta wants to sign a new frontman and Sesko remains one of the names on the priority list. football.london understands that the interest in Sesko has not evaporated after the failed summer interest and Arsenal have watched the forward closely.
Signing him would be the dream move, with his versatility meaning he could play across the frontline.
Zubimendi deal
Talk of Martin Zubimendi arriving at the Emirates Stadium was strong in the summer until Liverpool upped their interest and appeared to be frontrunners to sign the midfielder.
A deal to take him to Anfield could not be agreed, however, and the 25-year-old remained at Real Sociedad in La Liga. Fast forward to January and Arsenal are back in for the midfield man.
And it looks like a deal could be done this month. Sociedad want to keep the player until the summer, but if Arsenal could push through a deal before the January transfer window closes, it will give them a huge lift for the second half of the season.
Tierney exit
Kieran Tierney has long been on the periphery of things at Arsenal. The Scottish international had looked set to depart the Emirates Stadium last summer, only for an injury while on duty at Euro 2024 to scupper any hopes of a move.
He has had a couple of cameo appearances off the bench for Arsenal since returning from injury, but his future remains elsewhere.
A return to Celtic looks on the cards, with the Scottish giants working on a deal to sign him. There have been talks over a pre-contract agreement to sign for free in the summer, but Arsenal could get a small fee for the left-back if he were to depart this month instead and that would be perfect for all parties.
Pre-contract agreement
There are a number of players across Europe whose contracts are expiring in the summer that Arsenal could enter talks with to sign for free.
A couple of those that would most interest the Gunners are in the Bundesliga. If they were to sign Sesko and Zubimendi, they may not have need for the likes of Joshua Kimmich or Leroy Sane at Bayern Munich, but that’s not to say they should not try.
Free transfers for quality players should not be sniffed at, no matter the situation with the squad. Sane would be a great signing to add to Arteta’s attacking options, while, with Jorginho and Thomas Partey both leaving at the end of their contracts this summer, bringing Kimmich in alongside Zubimendi would mean it was two out and two in.Tap Here for the Full Story
