Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has introduced a new system allowing subscribers with outstanding airtime loans to recharge and still use part of their credit, while automatically repaying their debt.
According to a message sent to customers, users who recharge will have a portion of the amount deducted toward loan repayment, while the remaining balance remains available for calls or data.
For example, a recharge of ₦100 may allow a subscriber to use ₦75, while ₦25 is applied to offset previously borrowed airtime.
The development marks a shift from earlier restrictions that reportedly limited access to services for users with unpaid airtime loans.
LeadNaija News recalls that there had been reports suggesting MTN suspended its airtime borrowing service.
However, fresh information indicates that a Federal High Court ruling has directed the company to restore access to the service.
The new model appears designed to balance customer convenience with debt recovery, enabling continued connectivity while gradually clearing outstanding balances.
