Group Seeks Promotion For Immigration officer After Rejected N10m Bribe

The Niger Delta Rights Advocates, NDRA, has expressed optimism that there is hope for a better Nigeria.

NDRA, a political pressure group in the Niger Delta region, made this remark in reaction to the action of a Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, officer, Ugochukwu Orji, who reportedly rejected a N10 million bribe from a suspected ritualist, Levi Onyeka Obu, attempting to flee the country.

Obu had fled Enugu State after a local vigilante group uncovered human remains, including that of a pregnant woman, buried in his residence.

He attempted to leave the country but was intercepted by the NIS.

Reacting to the officer’s conduct, NDRA said Orji “demonstrated rare patriotism and honour”.

As part of efforts to encourage other Nigerians to make the right decisions when faced with such temptations, NDRA called for an automatic promotion for Officer Orji.

The socio-political group stated that such a move would serve as “encouragement for all officers in the five paramilitary agencies under that ministry, and indeed other security services, to consider the interest of the nation above personal gain.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Bright Ngolo, NDRA also commended the Ministry of Interior for “deploying modern security features at our land borders and international airports to curb cross-border criminality and secure the nation’s territorial integrity.”

The group further praised the Nigerian media for promoting the patriotic actions of selfless Nigerians.
