Hardship: Former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar Send Message To Tinubu Amidst Economic Saga

A former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Bishop Matthew Kukah have lamented the growing socio-economic challenges bedevilling the nation.

The duo who serve as the chairman and convener of the National Peace Committee (NPC) said Nigerians believed that the 2023 general elections would usher in a new administration that would tackle the nation’s challenges.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 24, by both leaders, the NPC is set to convene a national stakeholders’ meeting as part of strategies to address the multiple problems facing Nigeria and her people.

Also stating the policies if the present government is yet to meet the expectations of citizens, the duo said there is obvious discontent across the nation.

“This dire situation has fuelled frustration and discontent, culminating in the recent nationwide protests on hunger,” the statement said.

Noting that the demands made during the August nationwide protest were borne out of genuine concerns, the duo said the stakeholders’ meeting will explore pathways to support the government.

The statement added, “In response to this and in line with its mandate to mediate and intervene in electoral and non-electoral matters that impact the peace and stability of Nigeria, the NPC has decided to convene a one-day town hall meeting with critical stakeholders to discuss frankly and explore the pathways to support the government in addressing and overcoming the current socio-political and economic situation facing the country.”

The meeting will take place on Thursday, September 26, at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja to provide a platform for constructive dialogue and collaboration.

Also at the meeting, concerns about Nigerians will be discussed and outcomes and recommendations will be presented to the government for onward consideration
