The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the ban on the public parade of criminal suspects, stating the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding fundamental human rights and aligning with global best practices in law enforcement.

In a press release issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP reiterated that no suspect should be publicly paraded before formal charges are filed in a court of law.

The IGP stressed that this policy is consistent with international human rights standards, which protect the rights of individuals throughout the judicial process.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to operating within the bounds of the law and promoting a culture of respect for human rights among its personnel,” the statement read.

Adejobi called for the cooperation of the public, especially the media, in adhering to this directive.

He added that the IGP urged journalists to engage in responsible reporting and ethical practices to maintain public trust and support a fair and impartial justice system.

Adejobi assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all throughout legal proceedings.
