Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has expressed concern over the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) inconsistency regarding the identity of its National Secretary.
Speaking on the matter, Yakubu detailed a series of conflicting communications from the PDP to the commission over the past few months, which he described as confusing and problematic for proper recordkeeping and party administration.
“In the last couple of months, we received letters from the party saying that one Mr. Sunday Udeh-Okoye was the secretary,” the INEC boss said.
“Thereafter, the party changed its mind and said it was Samuel Anyanwu. Then again, the party wrote to say that it is Mr. Setonji Koshoedo. And again, the party reverted to say it was Anyanwu.”
Yakubu further disclosed that the most recent correspondence from the PDP only bore the signature of the party chairman and did not specify any name for the position of secretary.
“The last letter from the party actually had no secretary at all. It was only signed by the chairman, which we responded to,” he noted.
The back-and-forth reflects growing internal disarray within the PDP leadership structure, raising questions about the party’s administrative coherence ahead of future elections.
