January Transfer: FC Barca Decides Two Players Sold To Make Space For New Signing

FC Barcelona has decided which two players it will need to offload in order to make space for a new signing according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Though the January transfer window is about to open in a matter of days, the Catalans are already looking towards its summer counterpart ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah has been linked to the Blaugrana for a while now, with Sporting Director Deco having already met with his camp to sound out a potential free transfer.

As he will have entered the last six months of his contract, Tah can negotiate with who he wishes from January 1 onwards, and everything at the moment is pointing to him heading west from Germany to join his compatriot Hansi Flick.

Tah is expected to pen a five-year deal until 2030 according to Mundo Deportivo, citing anonymous sources, yet his arrival means that there will have to be departures.

At present, Flick’s undisputed starters in the heart of the back line are Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.

While the former is a La Masia pearl yet to become of adult age and is seen as one of the cornerstones of the club’s long-term future alongside Lamine Yamal, Inigo is also on the brink of free agency.

SPORT says his place is secure as the only left-footed center back Flick has to call upon, and it is likely that that his contract will be extended for another year.

Though Ronald Araujo is facing pressure to renew his terms past 2026, or be placed on the market, he is also wanted by the club meaning that the first team could boast at least four quality central defenders.

Those that are on the chopping block are namely Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen,(You can finish your reading^^) who Barca will be keen to sell because of their unique circumstances.

In short, both men arrived at Camp Nou, when it was still in use, on free transfers meaning a profit can be made on their sales.

Tied down until mid-2026, however, they will probably go for cut rate fees in the last summer they can be shipped out monetarily…
