Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel has reportedly decided he wants to join Manchester United before the January transfer window closes tomorrow.
Tel has been the centre of a transfer storm this week after informing the Bavarian club that he wished to leave this month in search of more game time. Tottenham Hotspur agreed a £50m deal with Bayern for the 19-year-old but it is understood this was rejected as the winger wanted to keep his options open ahead of the summer.
This left the door open for both United and Arsenal who are both happy to agree loan deals. MEN Sport reported prior to the defeat to Crystal Palace that the Reds were aiming to sign a forward before the window slammed shut with both Tel and Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku on their radar.
Now, journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Tel has agreed to join United with ‘immediate effect’. This decision by the winger has sparked negotiations between Bayern and the Reds to thrash out a deal.
United have reportedly submitted a loan offer that was immediately rejected because Bayern want to include an obligation to buy or make it a permanent transfer. Despite Tel’s preferences, a move to Arsenal is not off the table at this stage either.
Tel’s arrival at Old Trafford would be seen as a direct replacement for Marcus Rashford who is set to leave United on deadline day. The forward is close to having his loan stint at Aston Villa finalised as he completes a medical in the West Midlands on Sunday.
“He said that the playing time wasn’t enough for him and that’s understandable,” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said earlier this week. of Tel. “Nevertheless, we would have liked him to keep fighting. There’s no bad blood.Tap Here for the Full Story
