Tragedy struck in the quiet Ovom community of Bayelsa State as a man suspected to be a ritualist was arrested in possession of the mutilated remains of a six-year-old boy.
Leadnaija gathered that the suspect was apprehended by vigilant residents who raised an alarm after noticing suspicious movements in the early hours of the day. Upon confrontation, the community members reportedly discovered the lifeless and dismembered body of the child in his possession.
The victim, whose identity was still being withheld at press time, was said to have gone missing earlier in the day, prompting a frantic search by family members and neighbours.
Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations are underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the horrifying incident. A spokesperson for the command described the case as “deeply disturbing” and assured that justice will be served.
“This is a tragic and heart-wrenching case. Our officers have taken the suspect into custody, and investigations have begun. We urge the public to remain calm as we carry out a thorough inquiry,” the spokesperson said.
