The Turkish side faced an uphill battle after AZ Alkmaar’s 4-1 win in the first leg. Galatasaray dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances. AZ Alkmaar, on the other hand, remained solid and countered with menace, scoring through Seiya Maikuma and Denso Kasius .
Osimhen’s powerful volley in the 57th minute sparked hopes of a comeback, but it wasn’t enough. Rolland Sallai’s equalizer in the 70th minute made it 2-2 on the night, but Galatasaray still needed three more goals to force extra time .
