MultiChoice Slashes DStv Decoder Price by 50% Amid Declining Subscriptions

In a strategic move to boost customer base and address falling subscription numbers, MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50% reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, slashing the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, made the announcement on Tuesday, noting that the decision is part of its new “We Got You” campaign, which aims to reward customer loyalty and offer greater value to subscribers.

“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day,” Ugbe stated. “The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.”

The pay-TV giant, which has recently faced backlash over subscription price hikes and declining user engagement, said it is repositioning itself as a daily value platform. The move is designed to encourage viewers to explore a broader range of content beyond sports.

According to Ugbe, the new offering will help customers discover more across movies, drama, kids’ programming, news, and other genres—“more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” he said.

Industry analysts believe the price cut is a bid to retain and expand market share in an increasingly competitive digital content landscape.
