A Nigerian rapper and on-air personality N6 has raised alarm over the worsening state of insecurity in the country, claiming that Nigeria has effectively been at war since 2016, though the reality remains largely unnoticed by citizens living in urban areas.
In a strongly worded social media post, N6 stated that while major cities continue with normalcy, rural communities across the nation are suffering devastating violence daily, with many Nigerians unaware or indifferent to the growing humanitarian crisis.
“Only the cities are asleep while the rural areas bleed,” he said. “Nigerians don’t even know it.”
His comment has sparked renewed debate about urban detachment from the insecurity crisis gripping remote regions, especially in the Northwest, Northcentral, and parts of the South where banditry, kidnappings, and insurgent attacks have displaced thousands.
Security analysts and civil society groups have long warned that the disconnect between urban comfort and rural suffering could deepen the country’s instability if not addressed through inclusive dialogue, improved governance, and security reforms.
