Senator Ali Ndume, Chief Whip of the Senate, has openly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that if their roles were reversed, Tinubu would have been at the forefront of protests against his administration’s performance.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Arise Tv, the Borno South lawmaker distanced himself from any perception of political subservience to the president, asserting his independence and commitment to truth.
“Ask the President—I’m not his dependent; I’m his ally,” Ndume said pointedly.
“One thing I like and copy from Mr. President is that if we were to swap positions, and I were the President doing the same thing he is doing now, he would have been on the street protesting.”
The remark is viewed as one of the strongest criticisms yet from within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reflecting growing internal dissatisfaction over governance, particularly regarding the handling of economic challenges and national insecurity.
Ndume, known for his bluntness and political courage, has consistently called out inefficiencies in government. His latest comments highlight the tension between loyalty to party leadership and his increasing concern over policy outcomes affecting Nigerians.
Observers say his remarks could signal broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
