Ndume: “I’m Ready to Die for the Truth, But Won’t Stay on a Sinking Ship”

Senator Ali Ndume has declared that he is committed to speaking the truth and doing what is right, even if it costs him his life.

Ndume, who is 65 years old and has spent 24 years in Nigeria’s political landscape, made the statement while addressing the state of the current political climate and his future within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I’m 65, and I have been in this business for 24 years. God has given everything to me. The only thing I have to do right now, and I am prepared to die doing it, is to speak the truth and do what is right,” Ndume said.

The Borno South senator, known for his outspoken views, emphasized that while he remains loyal to the party, he is not blind to growing discontent and issues within the system.

“That is why I will not jump ship,” he added. “But when the ship is getting overloaded with unnecessary cargo and may capsize, then I better consider the small ship.”

Ndume’s remarks come amid mounting criticism of governance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and internal rumblings within the APC.

His metaphor-laden comments are being widely interpreted as a veiled warning about a possible defection or alignment with political alternatives ahead of the 2027 elections.
