The move comes during the largest oil supply disruption in history, as the Iran war has shut the Strait of Hormuz and cut global supply by 10.1 million barrels per day.
By leaving, the UAE is no longer bound by production quotas and can fully utilise its spare capacity, aiming for 5 million barrels per day by 2027.
The UAE aims to monetise its reserves before global demand potentially peaks in the 2040s.
The exit is a heavy blow to OPEC unity, signalling a growing rift with Saudi Arabia.
