NGX: Transactions Soar by 126.2% as GTCO, Beta Glass Lead Activity

Transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) surged significantly during the past trading week, as investors exchanged 3.566 billion shares valued at N115.403 billion in 99,960 deals, representing a 126.2 per cent increase from the previous week’s turnover.

• All-Share Index hits 118,138.22 points

This marked a sharp rise from 2.057 billion shares worth N51.015 billion exchanged in 65,016 deals the week before.

The Financial Services Industry dominated trading activity, accounting for 2.166 billion shares worth N62.046 billion in 45,851 transactions, contributing 60.73% of total volume and 53.76% of total value.

It was followed by the Consumer Goods Industry, with 580.893 million shares valued at N10.896 billion in 10,909 deals, while the Services Industry took third place with 193.300 million shares worth N2.449 billion traded in 6,306 deals.

Notably, Zenith Bank Plc, Champion Breweries Plc, and Access Holdings Plc were the most traded equities, accounting for 1.003 billion shares valued at N26.076 billion in 14,232 deals. This represented 28.14% of the total trading volume and 22.60% of market value.
All-Share Index, Market Capitalisation Rise

The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 2.35 per cent to close at 118,138.22 points, while the market capitalisation rose by 2.40 per cent to end the week at N74.534 trillion.

Apart from the NGX Industrial Goods Index and NGX Sovereign Bond Index, which fell by 0.36% and 0.78% respectively, all other sectoral indices closed in the green. The NGX ASeM Index closed flat.

Top Gainers and Losers

Fifty-five equities gained during the week — the same number as the previous week. However, 42 equities declined, up from 39 losers in the preceding week. 51 equities remained unchanged, compared to 54 in the previous period.

The top five gainers were:

  • Ellah Lakes Plc – up 23.09%, gaining N1.00
  • Beta Glass Plc – up 19.43%, gaining N44.90
  • Livingtrust Mortgage Bank Plc – up 18.88%, gaining N1.08
  • Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) – up 19.81%, gaining N13.45
  • Meyer Plc – up 13.61%, gaining N1.15

On the flip side, top decliners included:

  • Northern Nigeria Flour Mills Plc – down N19.35
  • Sunu Assurances Plc – down 67 kobo
  • Oando Plc – down N8.00
  • International Energy Insurance Plc – down 17 kobo
  • Omatek Ventures Plc – down 6 kobo

Meanwhile, during the week, the Exchange lifted the suspension previously placed on Thomas Wyatt Nigeria Plc, allowing the company’s shares to resume trading.
