Dr Doyin Okupe, former Director-General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, has condemned those attacking him for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic recovery plan, calling them ignorant.
Speaking from Lagos on Monday, Okupe criticised the online abuse directed at him by some Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter), describing them as political “urchins” who insult those with more experience.
Okupe emphasised that Nigeria’s future is a collective responsibility, transcending individual political affiliations.
“The Nigeria project belongs to all of us irrespective of the political party and political leader in power,” he stated.
He urged Nigerians to unite to move the country forward and adopt a culture of constructive criticism rather than unbridled hostility.
Highlighting his political journey, Okupe noted his support for Obi was made without personal gain and with no expectation of a government role, despite the risk to his interests.
He reiterated his commitment to serve as an elder statesman and private adviser to the President, pointing out that Obi can confirm his support was voluntary
