According to Vanguard, At the 13th convocation ceremony of Veritas University in Abuja, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Council, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, expressed confidence that Nigeria’s future solutions will emerge from the innovations of its students. He made these remarks as 43 female students, out of 56 total, graduated with First Class honours.
Bishop Kukah, addressing the graduates, noted that the education they received at Veritas University has equipped them with the skills necessary to face Nigeria’s challenges. He emphasized the role of innovation, saying, “Students from Veritas University have proven their mettle through both local and international awards that you have won for individual and group collaboration. He further urged the graduates to view their education as a key to unlocking future opportunities. “Your education is a key, not just a map. So, use it to open new doors of opportunity in a world that is fast changing. The future belongs to young men and women with ideas and the boldness to pursue them,” Kukah added.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, the Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, also spoke during the ceremony, highlighting the institution’s contribution to Nigeria’s national development by adding to its human resource capital. He encouraged the graduates to aspire to great heights, saying, “Fly high and soar like eagles, so that when those you leave behind see you in a few years, they too will believe they can succeed.”
Ichoku emphasized the strength and resilience Veritas students have developed over the course of their studies, noting, “You are no longer the naive novices who gained admission four or five years ago into Veritas University. You are now well-seasoned and experienced vanguards of knowledge, truth, and integrity.” He also acknowledged the impressive performance of Veritas University students on the global stage, including their success in national and international debate championships and innovative competitions.
Looking forward, Ichoku outlined future developments for the university, including the planned construction of an Engineering and Innovation Centre, estimated to cost over N2 billion. Other plans include building a Nursing Faculty, Food Courts, and a Shopping Mall at the female hostel to provide enhanced dining and shopping facilities for students.
During the ceremony, honorary degrees were conferred upon Archbishop (Emeritus) Alaba Job, Archbishop (Emeritus) Anthony John Valentine Obinna, HRM Prof. Epiphany Azinge, the Asagba of Asaba Kingdom, and Engr. Kola Adesina, Executive Director and Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group.
A total of 795 students graduated at the ceremony, with 56 receiving First Class honours. Among the graduates, 716 were undergraduates, while 79 completed postgraduate programs, including diplomas, master’s degrees, and PhDs.
