According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km is expected over the northern region on Sunday. However, localized visibility of 1km or less may occur in parts of Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Niger.
In the North Central region, states like Kogi, Kwara, and Benue will experience a hazy atmosphere with scattered clouds. Meanwhile, the southern region is expected to have cloudy skies with periods of sunshine, while thunderstorms are likely in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, and Delta.
By Monday, NiMet anticipates a continuation of moderate dust haze over the northern and North Central regions, with visibility still in the 2km to 5km range. Thunderstorms are again expected in parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta.
The hazy conditions are projected to persist into Tuesday, particularly in the northern and North Central regions. Southern states will continue to experience a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms in areas such as Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, and Delta.
NiMet has warned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere, posing potential health risks. The agency advised individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, to take precautions and limit exposure to the dusty air.
