During the three-day awareness program, Moye and his team engaged with local communities, visiting places such as the Eyaen Duke’s palace, markets, motor parks, and busy streets to emphasize the importance of the initiative. Moye articulated the urgency of the campaign, citing the alarming trends in irregular migration as the primary reason for its necessity.

David Amanahu, an Assistant Controller of Immigration from the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, explained that Edo State was selected for this campaign due to its historical context related to irregular migration.

The positive news is that Edo State is no longer the leading state for irregular migration. We must ensure that it continues to improve in reducing these numbers,” he stated.

Another facilitator from Abuja, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration Woshak Danladi, highlighted the serious risks associated with irregular migration. He called on NIS officers to actively inform the public about these dangers.

“Irregular migration poses a threat to personal safety, as individuals may lose their freedom or even be subjected to organ trafficking.”

“Additionally, it constitutes a violation of human rights, among other grave issues,” he cautioned.
