NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu Issues Strict Warning To Nigerians Over Scooping Fuel, Highlights Dangers

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has issued a warning to Nigerians about the dangers of scooping fuel from overturned petrol tankers. He emphasized that this practice poses a significant risk of catastrophic explosions, which have led to many tragic fatalities throughout the country.

He made the appeal at a sensitization meeting with the tanker drivers association in Moniya, located in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

He highlighted that President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his dissatisfaction regarding these incidents and has urged for immediate measures. He pointed out that collecting fuel from a damaged tanker is a reckless act that poses significant risks, similar to theft filled with peril.

He said, “Many Nigerians have lost their lives to fuel tanker explosions with the latest in Enugu State, claiming the lives of no fewer than 18 persons. The Enugu incident followed a similar incident in Niger where more than 80 persons reportedly lost their lives while scooping fuel from crashed tanker.”

The NOA DG also urged tanker drivers to follow traffic regulations, refrain from exceeding speed limits, and make sure their vehicles are well-maintained before setting off on their trips. He reassured the tanker drivers that the Federal Government is dedicated to improving the road infrastructure across the country to help minimize road accidents.

He urged Nigerians to look out for one another and provide support in times of need, emphasizing that this approach would improve society for everyone. He revealed that the agency has created jingles in 70 different languages to promote a campaign focused on changing attitudes, with the expectation that Nigerians will uphold the moral standards that are anticipated of them.Tap Here To Read Full Details
