Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said that the backing of governors from the Northwest, Northeast, and North Central zones was instrumental in the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC presidential flag bearer and his eventual victory in the 2023 general election.
El-Rufai, who spoke in an interview monitored on Monday at Arise Tv, said those downplaying the pivotal role played by the northern bloc in the build-up to the election are merely rewriting history for convenience.
“It was the support of the governors from the Northwest, Northeast, and North Central that was decisive in the outcome of the primary and the 2023 presidential election,” he said.
The former minister lamented that some members of President Tinubu’s camp are now attempting to distort the facts, forgetting the key alliances and sacrifices that led to victory at the polls.
“Of course, Bola Tinubu’s people are now denying that and saying all kinds of things; they will learn their lesson in 2027,” he added.
