This is just as the Nigeria Shippers Council is set to transform into the Port Economic Regulatory Agency. While receiving the “Regulator of the Year Award” from Top 10 Magazine at the weekend, Pius applauded the reforms by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the maritime sector, saying it will further reposition the industry for growth.

He said the country was looking forward to transforming into the Port Economic Regulatory Agency, one of the missing links since the sector reform in 2007.

He disclosed that the two chambers of the National Assembly have passed the law and await President Bola Tinubu’s assent. Akutah explained after the President’s assent, “We will begin to transmit from the Shippers’ Council mandate to the unofficial Port Economic Regulatory Agency mandate which is given to us by Presidential directive as a regulatory body backed by law.

“What that means is that we will be empowered to bring about efficiency in the sector which has eroded Nigeria for many years and once the sector becomes efficient, it will promote fair trade policies, it will promote competitiveness in the sector.

“He called on Nigerians to support these policies for the development of the maritime sector. In his welcome address, the publisher of Top 10 Magazine, Tony Iji, said the awardees contributed to the growth of their various sectors. He urged them to do more going forward as the country needs their dedication for sustainable development.

Other awardees at the event are the Secretary to the Federal government, Sen. George Akume, who was given “The Man of the Year” award and Mrs Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, who was awarded ‘Woman of the Year’. Read Full Details
