Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA) Issues Fresh Warning To Political Parties Ahead Of FCT, Other off-cycle Polls

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA) on Friday cautioned political parties, their members and leaders against violent activities ahead of the crucial elections in the Federal Capital Territory and other off-cycle elections in some states of the country.

Ribadu issued the warning to the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, at a meeting with the key officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said that no form of electoral misconduct or violence will be tolerated by security agencies across the country.

Stating that security agencies and their operatives are saddled with the responsibility of securing lives and property, the NSA said the safety of voters is non-negotiable.

“We must ensure that eligible voters exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation.

“In this regard, we will strengthen collaboration between security and law enforcement agencies to quickly address potential threats and challenges during the elections.

“The security component of ICCES will, among other things, intensify intelligence efforts to monitor and pre-empt any threats to these elections and provide real-time intelligence to enable the implementation of proactive measures,” Ribadu stated.

He called on all political stakeholders in the states and the FCT to ensure they abide by the tenets of the electoral law.

He also cautioned the youths to resist any attempt to be used by politicians to undermine the electoral process in these areas.
