In a statement, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Tanko Yunusa, said Agbasimalo was abducted at Lilu, a community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, while on a campaign tour to Azhia, a neighbouring community in the LGA.

The statement noted that before his abduction, Agbasimalo had garnered significant attention and admiration from his people during the brief campaign period, reflecting strong support and respect from his constituency.

The statement further reads in part:

“It is, however, unfortunate that a man of such outstanding disposition, with clear intentions to reshape politics by prioritising the interests of his people, could be taken away without any strong resistance.

“Mr Agbasimalo, who resigned from Zenith Bank after a nearly two-decade career to redefine governance in his state, has faced a tragic fate.

“We want to use this medium to first stand in solidarity with his family during this trying period—his wife, children, siblings, and all his loved ones—hoping that this dark chapter in their lives will soon come to an end.

“Secondly, we appeal to all relevant agencies, including the Police Force, DSS, Agunechemba, youth groups, town unions, and the ongoing legal process, to intensify efforts to uncover those responsible for this heinous act and ensure that justice prevails, reuniting Mr Agbasimalo with his family.

“We cannot say for certain his current condition, but regardless of political affiliations or religious differences, we must unite our efforts to prevent such atrocities from recurring.

“These and other crimes persist because the security of Nigerians is not treated as a national priority, leading to a disturbing trend of kidnappings, abductions, murders, assassinations, theft, and other heinous crimes.

“The future of this nation depends on our collective efforts to set aside differences and build a Nigeria where security is paramount, and citizens can go about their daily activities without fear of harassment or abduction. We know this is possible.” Read Full Details
