Former presidential aide and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has launched a scathing critique of Labour Party figurehead Peter Obi, accusing the former Anambra governor of prioritizing breweries over educational and health infrastructure during his tenure.
In a statement shared on social media platforms (X), Omokri alleged that Obi, who governed Anambra State between 2006 and 2014, failed to construct a single nursery, primary, secondary school, university, or stand-alone hospital, but instead invested in the construction of two breweries.
βOnly politicians who are afraid of educated voters refuse to build schools,β Omokri said. βThey know that once voters are educated, they will start asking questions and can no longer be manipulated by empty slogans, such as ‘Go and verify’.β
He continued, βThat is why someone like Peter Obi did not build a single school or hospital in his eight years as governor. But he built two breweries. He knows that as long as the voter is drunk, they can be convinced against logic to believe that a man who increased the poverty rate of Anambra will reduce the poverty rate of Nigeria.β
The remarks are the latest in a series of political criticisms as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections. Supporters of Peter Obi have dismissed similar claims in the past, citing investments in education and healthcare reforms during his administration, including support for missionary schools and improvements in fiscal management.
