Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has shared insights into the events surrounding his ascent to the governorship following the passing of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
In an interview with Channels TV, Aiyedatiwa disclosed key details about the succession process and the challenges faced during Akeredolu’s period of ill health.
According to Aiyedatiwa, during the late governor’s illness, Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, had made a statement in an audio recording asserting that if anything were to happen to her husband, the constitution clearly stipulated that Aiyedatiwa, as the deputy governor, would succeed him as the governor of Ondo State.
“Even Betty, the wife of the late governor, also mentioned it on one of her own audio tape that if anything happened to Aketi, as we fondly call him, that it is constitutional matter that Lucky will become the governor,” Aiyedatiwa recalled.
