The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General Folusho Oyinlola, has assured of a fair and just approach in addressing security challenges in Plateau State.
He gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos.
General Oyinlola, who recently assumed command, emphasized the need to build on the achievements of his predecessor to enhance stability in Plateau and its neighboring regions.
“Our priority is not just to maintain the existing peace in the state but to strengthen it, ensuring that all communities feel secure and supported,” he said.
He reiterated a people-centric approach to security operations, combining kinetic strategiesdirect military engagements with non-kinetic initiatives such as community engagement and dialogue.
“The security challenges in Plateau State require a multi-faceted approach. We must involve all stakeholders and ensure that their concerns are addressed in our quest for lasting peace,” he added.
Governor Mutfwang, in his remarks, welcomed the GOC and assured him of the state government’s support in restoring peace.
“We consider you a critical partner in progress, and together we will return Plateau State to its pre-crisis status as a land of peace and tourism,” he said.
The governor commended the efforts of the immediate past GOC, attributing the peaceful Christmas celebrations of 2024 to his dedicated interventions.
He stressed the importance of combining hard and soft approaches in tackling security issues, calling on citizens to embrace peace and work collectively towards a secure future.
Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, members of the State Executive Council, and senior military officers from 3 Division and OPSH.
