The Senate has alleged that some retired military generals are behind the widespread illegal mining activities in the country, which continue to undermine Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, made this disclosure during the budget report submission by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development, Senator Sampson Ekong.Tap Here To Read Full Details 

The session was held before the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

Oshiomhole lamented that the ongoing illegal mining activities threaten the country’s potential to generate significant revenue from the solid minerals sector. He argued that the current administration must urgently address the issue to achieve meaningful diversification from oil dependency.
