In a recent video shared on Symfoni tv, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a strong response to what he described as attempts to hijack the state’s administration, vowing to resist any move aimed at undermining his leadership. His remarks come amid rising political tensions with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during a press conference at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, Fubara made it clear that he would not allow external influences to dictate the affairs of Rivers State.

“I was elected by the good people of Rivers State, and I will not allow anyone, no matter how powerful, to take over the government through the backdoor. The will of the people must be respected,” the governor declared.

This statement follows weeks of political maneuvering and reports of increasing friction between Fubara and Wike, who was instrumental in his election victory in 2023. However, tensions have escalated, with speculations that Wike still holds significant influence over the state’s affairs.

In what appeared to be a direct challenge to his predecessor, Fubara emphasized his commitment to upholding the integrity of his administration.

“Leadership is about service to the people, not personal interests. We will not be distracted by those who think they can play god over Rivers State. The days of political intimidation are over,” he asserted.

While Wike has yet to issue an official response to the governor’s remarks, sources close to the FCT Minister suggest he remains unmoved by Fubara’s resistance.

Meanwhile, political observers believe that this latest development could mark the beginning of an intense power struggle between the two leaders. Many are closely watching to see whether Fubara’s administration will succeed in breaking free from Wike’s perceived grip on Rivers State politics.

As the situation unfolds, Rivers State remains on edge, with residents and stakeholders hopeful that the political tussle will not derail governance and development efforts in the oil-rich state.
