The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, has announced the formal reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
Speaking at a press conference held on Wednesday at Wadata Plaza, the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, Damagum stated that Senator Anyanwu has been officially instructed to resume duties with immediate effect.
This development comes after months of internal wrangling and conflicting communications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the rightful occupant of the position.
“Senator Anyanwu remains the substantive National Secretary of the party, and he has been directed to return to his office,” Damagum affirmed.
In a related development, the Acting National Chairman also revealed that the party’s planned 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has been canceled, citing constitutional concerns.
“Owing to certain constitutional issues, the proposed 100th NEC meeting will no longer hold. However, a National Caucus meeting has been scheduled for June 30, 2025,” he added.
The decision signals a significant step in resolving leadership disputes within the PDP, as the party continues efforts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
