Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Feb. 14 at about 1:45 p.m. when armed men stormed Gobiraje Village in Suru Local Government Area (LGA) and abducted Umaru Bawa, a resident, from his home.
A swift response by a combined team of policemen and vigilantes, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Suru, led to a pursuit of the kidnappers into Tundufai Forest in Dakingari.
According to police sources, security operatives engaged the suspects in a gun battle, killing four of them while one was arrested with gunshot wounds. Others managed to escape but are believed to have sustained injuries.
The abducted victim was rescued unharmed, and security operatives recovered ₦3 million in ransom money, which had already been paid by the victim’s family.
