Former presidential aide and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has criticized the alleged formation of a new political alliance by opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, referring to it as an “anti-Tinubu coalition” rather than a “pro-Nigeria movement.”
In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Omokri questioned the motivation and intent behind the proposed alliance, suggesting that its foundation is rooted more in opposition to President Bola Tinubu than in a genuine commitment to national development.
“Notice what they called their proposed new party: An anti-Tinubu coalition. That is very instructive. Not a pro-Nigeria coalition. An anti-Tinubu coalition,” Omokri wrote.
He further argued that political coalitions built on “personal animosity” rather than shared policy goals could be detrimental to democratic progress.
“In other words, the coalition is coming together, not for love of Nigeria and Nigerians, but for hatred of one man.”
Omokri raised concerns about reports linking former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi to the movement, suggesting their alleged collaboration reflects deep political contradictions. He controversially described both men with references to past criticisms, which have sparked backlash online.
Citing a quote attributed to George Bernard Shaw, Omokri concluded:
“Hatred is the coward’s revenge for being intimidated.”
