Reno Omokri Reignites Pandora Papers Controversy, Calls Out Peter Obi Over ‘Crime Scene’ Comment

Nigerian political commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has publicly criticized Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his recent comment describing Nigeria as a “crime scene.”

In a strongly worded post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Omokri referenced the 2021 Pandora Papers investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), in which Peter Obi was named in connection with offshore financial activities.

“Peter Obi, who was indicted for fraudulent activities and sundry other criminal enterprises by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, in the now infamous Pandora Papers, now says Nigeria is a crime scene,” Omokri wrote.

“Well, Peter should know. After all, experience is the best teacher. If Nigeria is a crime scene, then Peter Obi, who invested Anambra State Government money in his family business, is the biggest criminal in that crime scene.”

Omokri concluded his post by urging readers to “believe the Pandora Papers,” rather than taking his word for it.

The Pandora Papers, released in 2021, revealed that Obi allegedly failed to declare offshore assets and companies during his tenure as governor—an act critics argued violated Nigeria’s Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

Obi, however, denied any wrongdoing, insisting he complied with all applicable laws and that the investments were legitimate and meant to boost Anambra’s economy.

Omokri’s remarks have reignited political debate online, with supporters and opponents of Obi clashing over the allegations and the ethics of leadership in Nigeria.
