On November 19, 2014, Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly attack on Azaya Kura, a village in Borno State, Nigeria, leaving at least 45 people dead.
The assault was a reprisal after four of their members, who had entered the local market, were recognised and killed in a gunfight with soldiers.

The militants, armed with guns and explosives, stormed the village, causing massive destruction and chaos.
Survivors recounted the devastating loss of lives and property, and the great fear caused among residents of the community.

This deadly attack and the brutal murder of civilians drew both local and international condemnations and increased the calls for the Nigerian government to rise up in defense of its unarmed citizens who are usually targeted by the terrorists.
However, Boko Haram terrorists have continued their activities- kidnapping, maiming and killing people from time to time- despite several assurances of safety of citizens from government.
