A fire outbreak on Friday night consumed a twin 3-bedroom flats in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
The incident occurred at about 23:33 hours, at Sunnie Ododo area, Tanke Bubu area of Ilorin metropolis.
The fire incident destroyed all valuables in the building reportedly owned by Adeoye Samuel but no casualty was recorded.
One person who suffered a second degree burn in the attempt to rescue his brother has been hospitalized for medical treatment.
The chairman of the community, Muftau Amasa, who lamented the destruction inflicted on the building, passionately appealed to public-spirited members to come to the rescue of the family financially.
Spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in a statement in Ilorin on Saturday said a firefighting crew was immediately deployed to the scene to combat the inferno.
“Upon arrival, we found a twin 3-bedroom flat completely engulfed in flames due to the delayed alert. Nevertheless, our gallant firefighters exhibited remarkable professionalism and succeeded in containing the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
“The operation lasted several hours and required the replenishment of water supplies at the brigade headquarters during the firefighting process. Unfortunately, the fire consumed the entire building, including three rooms in the boys’ quarters.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge,” the statement added.
Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, sympathized with the affected residents and reiterated the importance of adhering to fire safety and electrical precautionary measures.
