In a recent interview on Echo 360 TV, residents of Port Harcourt voiced their frustration over the state of emergency declared in Rivers State. Mr. Pokubo, one of the residents interviewed, strongly criticized the federal government’s decision, calling it biased and unconstitutional.
“The main man who is orchestrating this problem is free with you,” Mr. Pokubo said, pointing out what he described as selective enforcement of the law. He accused President Bola Tinubu of failing to follow due process in suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months.
The declaration of a state of emergency has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the necessity of such a drastic measure. Critics argue that rather than addressing the root causes of the political crisis, the federal government’s actions only deepen the tension in the state.
Residents and political analysts have continued to express concerns over the fairness of the intervention, warning that it could set a dangerous precedent for democracy in Nigeria.
