Rivers: High Court Prohibited IGP, DSS From Offering Security Services

The Federal High Court has also prohibited the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Department of State Services (DSS) from offering security services.

Justice Peter Lifu handed down the ruling as he delivered a verdict in a case filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Lifu determined that the RSIEC made an error by scheduling the election for October 5 before ensuring compliance with all pertinent election laws.

The judge determined that the electoral authority in Rivers State breached the local government election conduct law by failing to issue the required 90-day notice prior to setting the election date.

Justice Peter Lifu emphasized that the process of updating and revising the voters’ register must be completed prior to establishing a legally valid election date.

The judge consequently instructed the INEC to refrain from providing the certified voters’ register to the RSIEC until all legal requirements have been thoroughly met.

Justice Peter Lifu has prohibited the RSIEC from accepting any voters’ register from INEC or utilizing it for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5.
