Rivers: Sign Peace Pact Within 90 Days Or Be Held Responsible – Wike, Fubara warned

The Coalition for Democracy and Development, CDD, has urged key players in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State to put aside their personal interests and sign a new peace pact within 90 days.

The coalition warned the embattled governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike that they will be held responsible for everything happening in Rivers if they fail to sign peace deal.

In a statement signed by its convener, Dr. George Ifure, CDD emphasised that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State is a clear indication of the failure of leadership and the pursuit of selfish interests by both the FCT Minister and the incumbent Governor.

The coalition condemned several moves by Wike and Fubara that led to the political crisis, stating that their pursuit of selfish interests has prioritised personal gains over the welfare of Rivers people.

DAILY POST reports that the political crisis in Rivers State recently escalated, resulting in President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency and the suspension of Fubara, his deputy and all elected members of the state assembly.

This was despite a previous peace pact signed by Governor Fubara and the FCT Minister in December 2023.

Concerned over the worsening crisis, CDD warned that Nigerians are ready to hold them responsible if they fail to sign a peace pact within the next 90 days.

β€œWe call on Wike and Governor Fubara to put aside their differences and work towards signing a new peace pact within the next 90 days. We urge them to prioritize the interests of the people and find a lasting solution to the crisis.

β€œWe urge President Bola Tinubu to make history with the way he handles the Rivers State crisis. This is a pivotal moment that requires bold and visionary leadership.

β€œWe implore him to focus on the welfare and interests of the Nigerian people, to listen to their voices, and to work towards a peaceful and democratic resolution that will restore democratic governance in Rivers State.
