The women of Rivers State have been commended for staging a walkout against the wife of the state’s Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, at an event in Port Harcourt.
This commendation was handed to the women by Chukwuemeka Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP).
Eze who is currently a member of the APC while reacting to the action of the women said their protest against the emergency rule in the state was successful.
Recall that some women who were participants at an empowerment programme attended by Nigeria’s First Lady Remi Tinubu walked out when Theresa Ibas got on the stage to make a speech.
The women in their numbers left the event venue while chanting “We want Sim”, an indication that they were only interested in the reinstatement of the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
While supporters of the President and the All Progressives Congress have condemned the action of the women, Eze said the protest has nothing to do with the president or his wife.
According to Eze, the protest was a bold statement to all that, the people of the stand cannot stand injustice.
He said, “The walkout has nothing to do with either Senator Tinubu, the First Lady, but is a demonstration against the wickedness being meted out to Rivers State and her people,” Eze noted.
“What these great women did reminds me of the events of 1929, when the British were in charge of Nigeria. The foreigners told the women they would have to start paying a tax to run their stalls,” Eze noted.
He also expressed optimism that Fubara would soon be reinstated as the governor of Rivers, as a result of the protest by the women.
