At least nine people have been confirmed dead in a bloody clash between the community of Gululu village and Fulani settlement in Yankunama of Miga local government area of Jigawa.
A report from the state indicated that the crisis began as a result of a broken shop and the stealing of bags of Habiscs recently harvested and stored in a shop by a resident farmer of Gululu village the midnight Thursday.
Speaking to Tribune Online on the incident, the Gululu village head, Malam Malam Muhammad Sarkin -Dori said when the day broke on Friday and the owner of the Habiscs realized some quantity of his products stolen mobilized some people whom were his brothers, neighbors and friends to trace that footpath of the thief or thieves.
The village head noted; “We woke up this morning with a provision shop got broken by suspected thieves in which some residents decided to follow the footpaths of the suspected thieves which led them to the nearby Fulani settlement where the violent clash occurred”.
“He said, “One Dauda Kafinta, who was declared missing during the melee, was later found dead with bow and arrow injuries, and four people were referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after their initial admission at Jahun General Hospital in the state”.
The Jigawa State Police command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawal Shiisu Adam in a statement issued and made available to Online Tribune revealed that “on 03/01/2025 information from Gululu village in Miga LGA indicated that a group of miscreants suspected to be Fulani broke into a shop and stole a quantity of hibiscus and other provisions”.
The police image maker maintained that in that regard, a team of villagers (Hausawa) traced their footprints to a Fulani Settlement Camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA. On sighting the team, the Fulanis started shooting the villagers with bows and arrows. As a result, four (4) persons were seriously injured.
According to the statement “Hence the villagers mobilized and started attacking the Fulanis and setting their houses ablaze at various locations within Miga and Jahun local government areas”.
Adam further stated that upon receipt of the report, a team of police officers from the Miga and Jahun Divisions rushed to the scene to assess the situation and restore peace and order.
“Unfortunately, nine (9) dead bodies were recovered; the corpses were ferried to Jahun and Miga hospitals, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed their deaths”.
The statement added that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Abdullahi, Dutse Area Commander, Department of Operations, Mobile Policeman Commander EOD, and other senior officers equally visited the scene of crime and conveyed a stakeholder meeting attended by the speaker of the state house of Assembly, Hon. Haruna Dangyatin, Jahun and Miga local councils’ chairmen, district heads, Miyetti Allah leadership, and vigilantes to prevent further breaks down of law and order.Tap Here for the Full Story
He said investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
