“The scrapping of the Niger Delta Ministry by President Bola Tinubu, is one of the many policy summersault of his Government, a display of his dictatorial tendencies and lack of the basic political negotiating skills required in far reaching policy decisions that affects a special region such as the Niger Delta.”
“How can you wake up one morning and decide to scrap a Ministry that was created as a fallout of years of negotiations with the leadership of the Niger Delta region who have for many years suffered oil pollution, neglect of their region that produces the wealth of Nigeria? And to add salt to injury, you now created a Ministry of Livestock to care for the Fulani Herdsmen.”
“To an average brain, this simply means that you rather have cows than securing the oil rich region where bulk of the country’s economic resources come from.
Yes, you can argue that the Niger Delta Ministry was only merged with the Ministry of Regional Development and not scrapped.”
“The issue is, Niger Deltans identify the Niger Delta Ministry as their own, created to fix their peculiar challenges and reduce the agitation for resource control.”
