Sokoto: Residents of Shinkafi, Sabon Birni, and Isa Plead To Expose Criminal Informants Amid Rising Insecurity

Residents of Shinkafi, Sabon Birni, and Isa local government areas of Sokoto State have been called upon to rise against the criminal elements living among them, particularly informants who collaborate with bandits to terrorize communities.

Intelligence reports have indicated that informants embedded within the towns are responsible for over 70% of kidnappings, killings, and looting. These informants allegedly provide intelligence to bandits, making it easy for them to launch coordinated attacks on innocent civilians.

The Community members have also accused powerful political figures of protecting these informants under the guise of political loyalty. This has reportedly hindered security agencies from taking effective action, as informants are shielded from prosecution by their influential backers.

“There are known informants in our communities, but people fear reporting them because they are backed by politicians. Even when some are arrested, they are later released due to political interference,” a local resident lamented.

This alarming situation has left many residents feeling helpless, with fears growing that the insecurity will persist unless immediate action is taken. The lack of trust in security forces has further complicated the issue, as many reports made to authorities allegedly go unaddressed.

“If nothing is done, this crisis will consume our entire region. We live in constant fear, knowing that criminals walk freely among us, while those who try to expose them are often the ones who suffer,” another resident added.

“The call to action is clear: the people must unite and expose informants before more lives are lost. Security agencies, on their part, must ensure swift action against those providing intelligence and financial support to bandits.

“Unless decisive steps are taken, communities in Sokoto and Zamfara will continue to suffer under the grip of criminals who thrive on the silence and fear of the people.

“This is a moment for residents to stand up, speak out, and work together to reclaim their land from those who seek to destroy it,”the sources said..Tap Here for the Full Story
