Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has taken a swipe at prominent media outlet THISDAY and its publisher, Nduka Obaigbena, accusing them of using their platform to promote a crop of “failed politicians” who, according to him, have contributed to Nigeria’s current woes.
In a strongly worded post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, Sowore criticised the continued prominence given to political figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and others, describing them as part of the “same political class” that has “ruined Nigeria.”
He wrote:
“The same failed old politicians who destroyed Nigeria before are being promoted to face the same old politician who destroyed and who is currently ruining Nigeria @officialABAT. Some things don’t make sense and I dare say some people have no sense!”
Sowore also accused THISDAY newspaper and Obaigbena of “lording failed politicians” on the Nigerian populace through what he termed “devious editorials.”
Others mentioned in the post include former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Ibrahim Shekarau.
The AAC leader, a fierce critic of Nigeria’s political establishment, has long advocated for a total overhaul of the system, often describing successive administrations—past and present—as enablers of systemic failure.
As of press time, THISDAY newspaper and the individuals mentioned in the post have not publicly responded to Sowore’s comments.
