Sumaila Downplayed The Significance Of His Strained Relationship With Hashim Suleiman

Amid internal conflicts in the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila (Kano South) has reiterated that his political fate rests solely on the judgment of his constituents.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Sumaila downplayed the significance of his strained relationship with NNPP chairman Hashim Suleiman Dungurawa, emphasizing that his performance, not party disputes, will shape his 2027 prospects.

According to Daily Trust reports, Sumaila said, “My people will assess my four-year performance—what I have delivered for them, their share in the Federal Republic, and their standing. They won’t ask about my relationship with the party chairman.”

Sumaila acknowledged differences with NNPP leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso but dismissed allegations of anti-party activities. He described the disputes as typical in politics, affirming his loyalty to the NNPP while pursuing resolution through legal channels.

The crisis deepened after Sumaila advised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to prioritize Kano residents’ welfare over allegiance to Kwankwaso.

In turn, Dungurawa accused him of fraud and undermining party unity. Despite these challenges, Sumaila remains confident in his constituents’ discernment, asserting, “They will differentiate between good and bad.”..CONTINUE READING
