Tension Arise As Terror Attacks Rabiah, 3 Police Injure, 1 Died

The attack occurred in the Rabiah neighborhood, a high-security region that housing the closely guarded Israeli embassy.

Police say the gunman, armed with an automatic weapon, fired at a police patrol before fleeing the scene. Authorities pursued him for an hour, eventually cornering and killing him just before dawn. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing ambulances rushing to the area.

Jordan’s Communications Minister, Mohamed Momani, labeled the incident a terrorist attack targeting security forces.

He emphasized that any threats to the country’s security would face a “firm response.” The gunman was identified as having a criminal history, including drug trafficking.

The Rabiah district is often a focal point for protests against Israel, especially during heightened tensions in the region. Recent demonstrations in Jordan have been fueled by Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.

Jordan’s population includes many citizens of Palestinian descent, many of whom harbor strong opposition to the 1994 peace treaty between Jordan and Israel. Despite the treaty, relations remain strained, with frequent public backlash against normalization efforts.
