Tension Arise In Ogun State As Safety Corps Boss Killed With Hammer, Machete In Church

Yomi Adetula, Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling for the Social Orientation and Safety (So-Safe) Corps in Ogun State, was brutally killed by suspected assassins in Idi-Iroko, Ipokia Local Government Area, on Sunday morning.

Witnesses reported that Adetula was in his church on Old Baggage Road, Idi-Iroko when gunmen armed with firearms and other weapons stormed the premises shortly after 10 a.m.

“They shot at him, but the bullets didn’t penetrate. They then used other weapons, including hammers and machetes, to inflict fatal injuries. Their actions made it clear they were hired assassins,” one resident told Foundation of Investigative Journalism.

Images of Adetula’s disfigured body, showing severe wounds and blood stains, have circulated, painting a grim picture of the attack.

Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday afternoon.

“Police officers raced to the scene and saw on Yomi Adetula, ‘M’, aged 54 years lifeless in the pool of blood which stained his white celestial garment lying face up.

“On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets and his head was not speared… to ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with axe.

“On police inquiry, information further gathered that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fired a shot that brought the deceased down,” she said.

She added that the command had begun moves to arrest the suspects who fled into the border area.

“Normalcy has been restored while possible clue will be revealed in the coming days as investigation has been launched into the very sad occurrence,” Odutola said.
