“The Worst Tenure In History Of Edo State Is Oshiomhole’s” – Group Hit Back At Okpebholo

The Edo South Business Forum has criticized recent statements made by Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, in which he pledged to continue the legacy of former governor Adams Oshiomhole if elected.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the forum labelled Oshiomhole’s tenure as “the worst in the history of Edo State,” accusing the former governor of leading without empathy, promoting thuggery, and failing to attract meaningful investments to the state.

Osazuwa Imafidon, Chairman of the Edo South Business Forum, expressed concerns over Okpebholo’s declaration, warning that it signals a potential return to the “dark days of governance” under Oshiomhole.

He pointed to the former governor’s notorious encounter with a widow in Benin City, where Oshiomhole infamously told her to “Go and die” after she pleaded for leniency—an incident that, according to Imafidon, became a national symbol of Oshiomhole’s mean-spirited approach to leadership.

The forum also condemned Oshiomhole’s treatment of teachers, particularly during a verification exercise described as a “spectacle of humiliation,” which created a hostile working environment filled with “fear and intimidation.”

One of the most damaging aspects of Oshiomhole’s tenure, the forum argued, was his alleged promotion of thuggery, which they claim undermined the rule of law and fostered a culture of fear and violence in Edo State.

Contrary to claims of development, the forum accused Oshiomhole’s administration of failing to attract real, sustainable economic growth, labelling his legacy as one of “missed opportunities and unfulfilled promises.”

In a stern message to Edo voters, Imafidon urged them to reject Senator Okpebholo at the polls, arguing that his vow to continue Oshiomhole’s legacy is a clear indication of his intent to “take Edo State back to the dark days of governance.”

“Edo deserves better. We deserve leadership that respects our dignity, values our contributions, and is committed to building a future that benefits all, not just a select few,” the group said.
