The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of orchestrating internal crises within the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to weaken the opposition and consolidate power.
Speaking during a gathering in Abuja on Thursday, Obi claimed that recent events within both parties were not organic but strategically influenced by external forces loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The internal issues rocking both the Labour Party and PDP are being fueled by the same people in power. President Tinubu and his associates are behind it, trying to divide and destabilize any platform that poses a threat in 2027,” Obi stated.
He warned that if the manipulation of opposition parties continues unchecked, Nigeria’s democracy will suffer greatly.
“This is no longer politics. It is an assault on democracy. A democracy without a vibrant opposition is dictatorship,” Obi added.
The presidency has yet to respond to the allegations as of the time of filing this report. However, APC insiders have previously dismissed similar claims from opposition figures as baseless and politically motivated.
