The Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, stated on Tuesday that Nigeria’s opposition political parties will only have a real chance to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 election if they come together in a united front.

In a statement issued by Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele’s media aide, the cleric emphasized that a fragmented opposition will struggle to make an impact in the next presidential race. Ayodele urged these parties to unite under a single, strong candidate who is both resilient and capable of gaining widespread support. Without such a coalition, he believes Tinubu’s path to re-election would face little resistance.
Ayodele noted that the coalition candidate needs to have the qualities of ruggedness, resilience, and widespread appeal if they are to compete effectively against the current president. “If PDP, Labour, NNPP don’t unite to form a coalition and propose one rugged and solid candidate for the 2027 presidential election, they won’t be able to unseat President Tinubu.”
Focusing on the PDP, Ayodele expressed concern that if the party intends to contest the election independently, possibly by fielding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar once again, they are unlikely to succeed.
